Octagonal Cottager
New gas fuel fireplaces
Model lineup
Gas convenience still starts with the same heavy Iron Embers construction: substantial steel, practical service access, and outdoor hardware chosen for long-term use.

Construction
The fire pit body is built from quarter-inch steel and backed by a 10 year warranty. The burner is also backed for 10 years, with 3 year coverage on electrical components.

Common questions about gas configurations, installation, shipping, customization, and long-term durability.
We can quote natural gas or propane configurations. The unit should be ordered for the fuel type you plan to use; conversion is not a casual field swap and must be reviewed with the correct parts and a qualified gas technician.
Yes. Final gas hookup and local code compliance should be handled by a licensed gas technician or qualified installer in your area.
Gas models use a reduced accessory set. The inline builder only offers matching tarp covers and compatible steel lids where they apply.
CSA requirements are confirmed during quoting because the final burner, valve, ignition, fuel type, and installation details matter. If you need CSA-listed components or specific inspection documentation, flag that early so we can specify the right package.
Ignition depends on the control package selected for the build. We can review match-light, push-button, and electronic ignition options during the quote so the setup matches your site and expectations.
That depends on the ignition and valve package. Flame-sensing safety shutoff is available with certain gas control systems, while simpler manual systems work differently. We confirm this before finalizing the quote.
Natural gas models are intended to connect to a properly sized home gas line. Propane models can run from an appropriately sized propane supply. Your gas technician should confirm line sizing, pressure, regulator needs, and local code requirements.
Propane tank placement depends on the model, site layout, and code requirements. Tanks generally need a safe, ventilated location and should not be hidden inside an enclosed steel body unless the enclosure is specifically designed and approved for that use.
Runtime depends on tank size and BTU output. As a rough guide, a standard 20 lb propane tank holds about 430,000 BTU, so a 60,000 BTU burner would run about 7 hours at full output and longer at a lower flame.
BTU measures fuel use and heat output. Higher BTU can support a larger flame and more heat, but uses fuel faster and may need larger gas lines or tanks. Final BTU output depends on the model, size, burner, and fuel setup.
Flame height is adjusted through the approved gas control or valve system included with the build. The exact control style depends on whether the setup is match-light, push-button, or electronic ignition.
Turn the gas off and follow the startup instructions for your specific control package. Common checks include fuel supply, valve position, batteries for electronic systems, and blocked burner ports. If you smell gas or are unsure, stop and call a qualified gas technician.
The steel fire pit body arrives built, but gas hookup, final placement, leak testing, and commissioning should be completed by a qualified gas technician.
All orders are available for free pickup from our Guelph, ON location. If that is too far, we package your order in a box or on a pallet (for larger units) and ship it right to your door. The driver will call ahead to schedule a delivery window and place the package directly on your driveway. Be sure to inspect the package before the driver leaves to catch any shipping damage (not common but it happens sometimes).
Read the full shipping and returns policyCustom cutouts are laser cut into the side panels of your fire pit. Because of this, they need to be fabricated before the fire pit is welded together and cannot be added later. Right now, custom cutouts are handled directly through our team, so contact us to discuss your design and get a quote. We will always send you a detailed drawing before anything is built to ensure it is exactly what you are looking for.
Over the course of several seasons, it is normal to see a small amount of corrosion on your fire pit, primarily where the fire touches. Our fire pits are coated with a high-temp paint, but that can deteriorate over time. For best results, keep up with maintenance using our signature touch-up paint and protect the unit from standing moisture when possible. Our 10-year guarantee covers rust-through and burn-through, but regular maintenance is still part of owning a steel fire pit.
